A monthly independent Enneagram journal said to be the largest publication in the field. Includes articles, interviews with well-known teachers and thinkers in the field, news, book/movie/course reviews, teaching schedules.

Suggested Books and Tapes

The following is a comprehensive list of books and tapes about the Enneagram by nearly 30 authors. The selections are listed alphabetically by author. A few authors have published a number of Enneagram books. A few others are prominent Enneagram teachers. The following short cuts point to the works of these particular authors: Baron and Wagele, Kathleen V. Hurley and Theodore E. Dobson, Margaret Keyes, Helen Palmer, Claudio Naranjo, Don Riso, Richard Rohr.

Baron and Wagele

Baron, Renee and Elizabeth Wagele. The Enneagram Made Easy. San Francisco: HarperSanFrancisco, 1994. Paperback, 176 pages. $16.00.

Good material presented in a quick and easy way to grasp. Great cartoons that effectively illustrate differences in the types. Light on narrative and big on bulleted and numbered lists. Baron, a therapist, is a Point Two and Wagele, an illustrator and writer, is a Point Five. Book has interesting chart correlating the Enneagram and the MBTI. Also, see Wagele, below.

This is the second book by the co-authors Baron and Wagele and it follows the same format as the first, i.e., light on narrative and big on lists and illustrations. The book is effective in making its points.

Claudio Naranjo

Naranjo, Claudio M.D. Ennea-Type Structures: Self-Analysis for the Seeker. Nevada City, CA: Gateways/IDHHB, Inc., 1991. Paperback, 192 pages. $12.50.

Naranjo, perhaps more than any other contemporary writer, may be credited with popularizing the Enneagram though he would disdain such a thought. Just about ever other teacher, lecturer and writer on the Enneagram can trace their introduction to the system to Naranjo’s first study groups, which were conducted in the early 70s in Berkeley, California.

Technically, this may be the most useful discussion of the fine points of the Enneagram for the serious student.

Nogosek, Robert, C.S.C. The Enneagram Journey to New Life:   Who Am I?  What Do I Stand For?. Denville, NJ: Dimension Books, 1995.

The author, a Point Five, bases his book on these three questions for each of the Enneagram types: 1) How does Jesus express the gifts of the type? 2) What is the compulsion, or "trap", of the type, which, as sinless, Jesus would have avoided? and 3) How did he (Jesus), avoid the compulsion of the type.

The author, a Point Six, has been studying and teaching the Enneagram for more than 20 years, having been exposed to the system by Claudio Naranjo in the early ‘70s. She is the chief advocate of the oral tradition and presents lot’s of quotes from people who know themselves well enough to describe their lives from the standpoint of their Enneagram type. A comprehensive study of the Enneagram teaching and the types. Material is based on information from the author’s clients and panels.

Don Riso

Riso, Don Richard. Personality Types: Using the Enneagram For Self-Discovery. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1987. Paperback, 284 pages. $9.95.

The author, a Point Four, is one of the more prolific Enneagram authors. He has been studying and teaching the system more than 20 years. His writing is more academic and linear than most other Enneagram authors, but nevertheless very good.

Richard Rohr, Point One, is a Franciscan priest and Andreas Ebert, Point Two, is a Lutheran cleric and educator. Their books, more then any of the others, speak to the spirituality of the Enneagram teachings.
